Mr. Hart began his legal career with the provincial government, where he advised the government on issues related to agriculture, health, social services, construction, fisheries and wildlife, forestry, municipal government, and Treaty Land Entitlement. He negotiated and prepared commercial government contracts. In 1982, he joined the firm, and has been a partner since 1984.

Russ Hart is member of the Canadian Bar Association ("CBA") and is active in its Business and Wills and Real Property Sections. He serves as CBA representative to the Queen Bench Bar Judicial Council and to the Court of Appeal Bar Judicial Council. He is a member of Ad Idem (Advocates in Defence of Freedom of Expression in the Media). Committed to high ethical standards for lawyers, Mr. Hart served as a member of a Professional Standards Committee of the Law Society of Saskatchewan. He has lectured on Media Law at the University of Regina, School of Journalism. He has presented on media law to the Canadian Association of Journalism, the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association, the Saskatchewan Legal Education Society and the RCMP training Academy.

Mr. Hart also makes time to serve the larger community. He is Chair of the Board of Westminister United Church. He is past President and current Director of the Phoenix Residential Society, member of the Board of the Regina Symphony Orchestra, member of the Rotary Club of Regina, member of the Board of the Regina Rowing Club, and coach for the Regina Community Basketball Association.

Mr. Hart is married, and he and his wife have three children. He values the time he spends with his family at the cottage, sailing, and skiing.
