Gerrand Rath Johnson is a medium-sized, full-service law firm located in downtown Regina. Gerrand Rath Johnson regularly considers applications from potential articling students, and hires a maximum of one student per year when the right fit presents itself. When Gerrand Rath Johnson hires an articling student, we look for a person with a positive approach to life and a history of academic success who is interested in building a legal career with the firm.
Articling students at Gerrand Rath Johnson are assigned a principal lawyer with whom they work, but are encouraged to seek out and work with all senior lawyers in the firm. Within the context of a structured program that puts a priority on the articling student building the skills to be a successful and ethical practicing lawyer, articling students will have exposure to most areas of law: civil litigation, family law, media law, commercial law, criminal law, and employment law, to name a few. Committed to the continuing education of our professionals as articling students and lawyers, Gerrand Rath Johnson supports our articling students with time and resources throughout the Bar Admission CPLED course.
At Gerrand Rath Johnson, the articling year is seen as an opportunity to continue to learn how to be a lawyer while doing real and meaningful work for the firm's clients. An articling student at Gerrand Rath Johnson has the opportunity to observe highly experienced lawyers in client interviews, mediations, pre-trial conferences, examinations for discovery, arbitrations and trials. He or she will have the opportunity to research and think creatively about solutions to our clients' problems. Far from being banished to a backroom with a bunch of books for a year, an articling student at Gerrand Rath Johnson is given progressive responsibilities, and, when ready, the responsibility for her or his own files to the extent appropriate while articling. Fundamentally egalitarian and non-hierarchical in our working relations, the lawyers at Gerrand Rath Johnson value the opinions, approaches and work of our articling student.
Becoming a lawyer often involves exploring important ethical choices in how to do the work a lawyer does. Our lawyers have served on many professional councils, and in national leadership positions in the Canadian Bar Association.

As such, the firm does not have a set billable hour target for our articling student.
